I think to have these discussions, we need to first unpack what we mean by 21st century learning and civil and political rights. If I understand 21st Century Learning, it is the focus on having students to build competencies that enable them to engage in the 21st century workplace – which is a workplace that uses computer and internet technology. But also it is about being innovative, a critical thinker, and demonstrating good communication skills. We need more of this in the education system. Teachers need to be better equipped to help learners have open dialogues and engage in learning topics in ways that are meaningful to them rather than just reading and learning by rote.
